Party Line

2009

It continually baffles me how an individual can conform to a particular set of beliefs without wavering nor questioning whether it is always the best solution. I’m unsure if they have actually researched their “views” or if they simply took the overall gist of a particular parties ideals and decided that ‘they were right about certain things so everything they stand for must conform to what I believe’. I honestly wonder about this.

Take the “conservatives” for instance. I agree with certain aspects of conservative ideals. You cannot have my guns! That, as far as I am concerned, is the end of the argument. I, however, do not need an ak-47 to hunt deer. No one does. If you are that poor of a shot perhaps you shouldn’t be hunting with firearms. These people will pull every metaphoric excuse in the book to attempt to justify their ownership of an assault weapon. As an American citizen you do not have to justify a damn thing, my right to own that weapon is protected by the second amendment – period. Argument over. For some reason people don’t realize that the second amendment is in place specifically for the purpose of protecting the country against ALL enemies, foreign and domestic. That includes a Government which attempts to dictate what ‘types’ of firearms I can and can not own. That is an infringement upon my individual rights.

On the other hand, walk through a Walmart. If you walk past 100 people in there how many would you honestly hand an AK-47 to and trust them with it? They have their individual rights as well. So who gets to be judge and jury as to whom is allowed to own these types of weapons? Everyone is so self-involved about how anything personally affects them that they shirk the responsibility of thinking what others may be capable of.  They will then turn to the “they have them so I have to have one” argument.

No you don’t.

But you have to follow that party line, don’t you. So on and on it goes. These are also the people that are absolutely adamant about stopping embryonic stem cell research. Without knowing (apparently) anything about the research that could save thousands, millions of lives including, more than likely, their own at some point they walk that line and preach against it. And make no mistake – preach is very accurate. It is quite obvious they do not look at both sides of the debate and merely believe, blindingly so, what their “leaders” tell them. Shit like it’s ok to hunt wolves from a helicopter. But that is a whole other post (or blog, or book…).

The point is if you are only walking a line it is impossible to see both ends at the same time. Anyone that tells you that they’ve studied both sides and simply agree with everything one side says is either totally full of shit or they are actually capable of blowing smoke up their own ass. Unless you’re a chimney wake up and actually research differing points of view. Use some common sense and think about more than yourself.

Yeah, good luck with that . . .
