Politics Suck!

I am of the opinion that there are actually few people that fall completely into a category of either “left” or “right”, “liberal” or “republican”. The notion that everyone must choose a side to describe their political beliefs is, to me, ludicrous. The country is not as divided as the talking heads would have you believe.

This blog exists for two reasons. The first is to explain my political views and why I believe that the strange concept of “common sense” will rarely make its way into modern politics. The second, since no one will probably give a damn about the first, is to call out the “talking head” on their bullshit!

These people are so biased and blind by what they believe to be the absolute truth that they refuse anything that disputes that belief. They think that their opinion is the only morally correct, logically viable, and acceptably responsible solution to any given problem. They are so set in this belief that any dissenting opinions are dismissed out of hand as rhetoric of the enemy. If you don’t agree with me you are not patriotic. Bullshit!

People on both “sides” are guilty of this. People that believe that everyone on the other side is there to destroy the country are as much a part of the problem as the ones to whom they are listening. Simply because you have an unwavering belief that your way is the only correct way does not make you right, it just makes you a person with an unwavering belief. Big deal. It also makes you a person who is unwilling to listen to other points of view. If, in the historical course of this country, as well as all of human history, people with this viewpoint were the only ones in power we would still be gathered around campfires grunting about the days hunt.

This mindset is unproductive. It is, in fact, counterproductive to any type of problem solving ability one may have. Being open to an opposing viewpoint and conceding that there may actually be a middle ground somewhere is not “selling out” or “giving up”, it is being adult enough to solve a common problem. We need more adults in politics.
